Thanks for the kind words on the site.molympushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04182787425237386444noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6239462032076233428.post-53665701438397112952016-05-29T06:14:00.424+02:002016-05-29T06:14:00.424+02:00Band originally formed by Richard Lunn, guitar, a ...Band originally formed by Richard Lunn, guitar, a year older than the others. After he graduated in '65 Mike took over on guitar. Richard went on to play (and record) with Ginger Johnson's African Messengers and then Amazing Grace. Still playing jazz and blues in Switzerland.

Thanks for the great site. Last Saturday night, in fact. We have known Joe McCarthy, his trumpet-playing partner in the Soul Survivor Horns, for many years. One of the classrooms had a piano and Chris could often be heard playing the blues or blasting out one of his favourites, Nutrocker Suite.
Having played with the Godfather of British Blues, John Mayall OBE, he returned to Blackburn with his band Juicy Lucy to play at a gig I helped organise at Blackburn Tech College. I managed to spend some time backstage with the band and enjoyed reminiscing about the early days at QEGS. Juicy Lucy had a hit with Who Do You Love and Chris’s searing, soulful sax was an absolute joy to listen to.
Hearing that he’s now settled in Portland was another coincidence as we have some very dear friends who live there, Jim & Beth Ray, so maybe we should plan a holiday and pay them all a visit!
I found the news about Chris while getting some more background info on John Mayall for our youngest daughter who has a wide range in music that encompasses many of the greats, Hendrix, Who, Floyd, Clapton and many more. She has just given me an incredible Christmas present, a ticket to see Clapton live next May in Manchester, she got two tickets so we can both go!!
She finds it amazing and amusing that I first ‘discovered’ Clapton way back in 1967 at the same time I first heard John Mayall and Hendrix, but when I told her that the Godfather was still playing aged 78, and had recorded around 75 original albums, she then fully appreciated the longevity of good music. It’s reassuring to know that the inredible legacy that has been left by the musical explosion of the 60s and 70s is still being appreciated by the ‘kids of today’!!

Merry Christmas

John ChamleyJohn Chamleyhttp://www.flavourart.co.uknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6239462032076233428.post-90402587562881458192012-05-04T15:26:21.850+02:002012-05-04T15:26:21.850+02:00Blue Monks line up Chris Mercer sax, Steve Usher b...Blue Monks line up Chris Mercer sax, Steve Usher bass, David Lloyd drums, John Nicholson keyboard, Mike Crowther guitar, Murray Head vocals.Mike Crowther payed guitar for Vashti Bunyan in the late '60sMike Crowthernoreply@blogger.com
