This is intended to be a homage to very many musicians I've loved since I started listening to music. My intention is to tell what I know about them, hoping that those people who like them too, will help me fill numerous gaps, which I may have in their careers and discographies. Sorry, but there are no MP3 audio files here at all, just info (and love for the musicians).

Hugh Bullen (bass)

BANDS:
  • Soul Trinity
  • The Tonics
  • Herbie Goins & The Night Timers
  • Wess & The Airedales
  • Gonzalez
  • Adesuwa Bullen Band

BIOGRAPHY:

Very funky bass player from Trinidad And Tobago. Sometimes credited as Hughie Bullen, it´s not easy finding info about him, so I just write here what I know about Hugh.

Hugh Bullen

SOUL TRINITY

Hugh Bullen joined this band along with his brother Kelvin Bullen, when he was only 15. They supported Cream and Jimi Hendrix, among others. Sorry, don´t know the names of other members, so any info would be very appreciated:

Hugh and Kelvin left the band to join The Tonics.

THE TONICS

Hugh and Kelvin joined The Tonics probably around 1968 or so. Again, don´t know other members:

HERBIE GOINS & THE NIGHT TIMERS

Next band for Hugh Bullen was backing great singer Herbie Goins:

He probably played there with other future members of Gonzalez, but I don´t have more info. Help, please...

Other info on members of Herbie Goins & The Night Timers (I know up to 21 members)
Already covered (3): Speedy Acquaye, Harry Beckett, Chris Mercer
To be covered (13): Mike Carr, Roy Davies, Mick Eve, Herbie Goins, Ian Hague, DeLisle Harper, John Paul Jones, Linda Lewis, Junior Marvin, Dave Mason, John McLaughlin, Roy O´Temro, Eddie Thornton

WESS & THE AIREDALES

This was an Italian band. Hugh met them while touring Italy with Herbie Goins. He joined them soon after, moving to Italy to live, where he spent many years:

?
+ others unknown to me. Help!

I think Hugh stayed 10 years with the band.

AND THEN

While in Italy, he played as sessionman in several albums. The most famous Italian artist featuring Hugh is the late singer Lucio Battisti.

He also released a solo album along with guitarist Franco Mussida (from progressive band Premiata Forneria Marconi). The album was called Feeling.

In the late 70s, Hugh started releasing singles in disco style, most of them in Italy.

GONZALEZ

In 1979, Hugh Bullen returned to England, and started playing with Gonzalez. Hugh was a fill-in sub for the band:

GONZALEZ #1
?
Roy Davies
keyboards
Ron Carthy
trumpet
Mick Eve
sax
Steve Gregory
sax
Bud Beadle
sax
+ several others, in different lineups. Help!

But I haven´t details about exact lineups with Hugh. Can someone help, please?

Hugh appeared in their fifth album, Move it to the music:

- Linda Taylor (vocals)
- Alan Marshall (vocals)
- Tim Cansfield (guitar, vocals)
- Hugh Bullen (bass)
- Roy Davies (keyboards)
- Chris Mercer (sax)
- Bud Beadle (sax)
- Ron Carthy (trumpet)
- Colin Jacas (trombone)
- Martin Drover (horns)
- Bobby Stignac (drums)
- Sergio Castillo (drums)

Their last album was Watch your step, but I don't know the lineup, as I don't have it. Help, please!

Without any human form to include here all their members, they continued playing together, in their own albums as Gonzalez, as well as in many other albums by different artists, until 1986, when founder member Roy Davies died. Many of the members kept on playing together in a new band, Cayenne, but don´t know how much Hugh played with Gonzalez.

Other info on members of Gonzalez (I know up to 48 members)
Already covered (4): Gordon Hunte, Chris Mercer, Nick Newell, Bobby Stignac
To be covered (43): Robert Ahwai, Louise Arthurworrey, Richard Bailey, Bud Beadle, Tim Cansfield, Ron Carthy, Sergio Castillo, George Chandler, Phil Chen, Gerry Conway, Roy Davies, Winston Delandro, Carl Douglas, Martin Drover, Mick Eve, Steve Ferrone, Rosko Gee, John Giblin, Steve Gregory, Malcolm Griffiths, Kuma Harada, DeLisle Harper, Preston Heyman, Randy Hope-Taylor, Janice Hoyte,... up to 43 musicians.

AND THEN

He released some more disco singles in Italy.
