BIOGRAPHY:

Charles ´Buddy´ Montgomery was born in January 30th, 1930 in Indianapolis, Indiana (USA). Vibraphonist and pianist, he was part of a talented musical family, along with his brothers, guitarist Wes Montgomery and bassist Monk Montgomery. In fact, they formed a band with the obvious name of The Montgomery Brothers, recording several albums.

Buddy Montgomery

He played with Big Joe Turner in 1949, followed by a stay in Slide Hampton Group. Then, he started forming his own bands. One of them was the Indianapolis Jazz Quartet.

Then, Buddy and Monk formed the band The Mastersounds. After that, he formed a quintet with Ray Johnson during 1955 to 1957.

In 1958, Buddy won the Downbeat awards for best new vibraphone player and best new arranger.

In 1960 he joined very briefly to Miles Davis Group playing vibraphone for some months after Cannonball Adderley left, but Buddy didn´t stay due to his fear of flying.

He has released several albums of his own, but he still kept playing with other people, such as David ´Fathead´ Newman.
