BIOGRAPHY:

Very powerful drummer, he has played with many great bands, as we're going to read. He was born in Hounslow in January 19th, 1953. He joined his first band while he still was at school.

ROCOCO

The band was formed around Roy Shipston:

ROCOCO #1
?
Richard
vocals
Gary Harvey
bass
Roy Shipston
keyboards

They only released a single, 'Ultrastar'/'Wildfire' in 1973. After that, Shipston and Edwards carried on with a new lineup.
This was the lineup for Rococo around 1975:

ROCOCO #?
?
Ian Raines
vocals
Rod Halling
guitar
John Edwards
bass
Roy Shipston
keyboards

They released the single, 'Follow that car'/'Lucinda' in April 1976, as well as their first album, The living rock.
This was the lineup for Rococo around 1976:

ROCOCO #?
?
Ian Raines
vocals
Rod Halling
guitar
Steve Carman
bass
Roy Shipston
keyboards

They recorded their second album, Hoodlum fun.

SCREAMING LORD SUTCH BAND

For a while, Clive toured and recorded with Screaming Lord Sutch, but can´t find proper info. Maybe this happened when his cousin, John ´Rhino´ Edwards also played for Sutch. Can someone help with info, please?

SCREAMER

Clive´s next band was called Screamer, but can´t find any info!

PAT TRAVERS BAND

Clive was called to replace Nicko McBrain (who left to join the Jenny Darren Band, currently in Iron Maiden):

PAT TRAVERS BAND #
Pat Travers
guitar, vocals
Pete Cowling
bass

They released the album Makin´ magic in 1977.

For their 1977 tour, they add a 2nd guitarist, Mick Dyche:

PAT TRAVERS BAND #
1977
Pat Travers
guitar, vocals
Mick Dyche
guitar
Pete Cowling
bass

They appear in the album BBC Radio 1 live in concert with tracks recorded in 1977 and 1980.

FILTHY MCNASTY

Filthy McNasty was a parallel band formed by great singer Chris Thompson (who was lead vocalist in Manfred Mann Earth Band at that time). Some of the members also played in other bands (Geoff Whitehorn was still a member of Crawler).

FILTHY MCNASTY #1
?-Nov 78
êElton John Band

In April 1978, they played at The Bridge House, Canning Town, London. It was released a collective live album, Live: a week at the Bridge E16, shared with several more bands: Jackie Lynton's Happy Days, Gerry McAvoy Jam, Salt, Remus Down Boulevard and Roll Ups. Filthy McNasty are featured in 3 tracks.

The band even recorded a live album at The Marquee, which sadly still remains unreleased.

Filthy McNasty evolved quickly into Night in November 1978 (with Chris Thompson, Stevie Lange and Billy Kristian), with Robbie McIntosh instead of Geoff.

ELECTRIC SUN

This was the band formed by guitar virtuoso Uli Jon Roth after leaving Scorpions. He formed a power trio, in the style of Jimi Hendrix, under the name Electric Sun:

ULI JON ROTH BAND #1
?
Uli Jon Roth
guitar, vocals
Ule Ritgen
bass

They released Earthquake, recorded between November 1978 and January 1979.

WILD HORSES

Wild Horses

New drummer in Wild Horses was Clive Edwards:

WILD HORSES #4
Jan 79-Oct 80
Brian Robertson
guitar, vocals
Neil Carter
guitar
Jimmy Bain
bass, vocals
UFOê

They appeared at Reading Rock Festival in August 1979.

This was the lineup that recorded The first album, produced by Trevor Rabin, in the period between December 1979 and January 1980.

After several tours (where they had some special guests from time to time, such as Phil Lynott or Michael Schenker), Neil Carter left them in October 1980 (or was August 1980?) to join UFO.
They get John Lockton to replace Neil Carter around October 1980:

WILD HORSES #5
Oct 80-Jun 81
Brian Robertson
guitar, vocals
John Lockton
guitar
Jimmy Bain
bass, vocals

They released a second album, Stand your ground, released in May 1981. But the group's stability was damaged when Brian 'Robbo' Robertson and Clive Edwards left the band in June 1981 at the end of a tour.

JOHN CALE BAND

John Cale assembled a one-off band for a festival in Holland in June 1980:

JOHN CALE BAND #?
Jun 80
John Cale
vocals
Ollie Halsall
guitar
Chris Thompson
keyboards
Jeff Reynolds
trumpet
Rudy Van Dyck
sax
Judy Nylon
backing vocals

BAND WITH GARY BARDEN

Around 1981-1982, guitarist John Lockton recorded some demos with singer Gary Barden:

BAND WITH GARY BARDEN #?
Period unknown to me
Gary Barden
vocals
John Lockton
guitar
+ others unknown to me. Maybe Neil Murray?

Lockton also played in some demos with bassist Neil Murray, but I don't know if they're the same demos as with Gary Barden. Anybody knows? Also, I'd like to know if this was intended to be a proper band, or just recording demos.

LIONHEART

Surprisingly, the new drummer, Clive Edwards, also came from the band Wild Horses to replace Frank Noon who left them for Wild Horses:

LIONHEART #4
Jun 81-?
Dennis Stratton
guitar, vocals
Steve Mann
guitar
Rocky Newton
bass, vocals
Grand Prixê

Vocal duties are shared between Stratton and Rocky. But the drum seat was never too permanent in the band. After some time (help with additional info will be welcomed!), Clive Edwards joins Grand Prix.

BERNIE MARSDEN´S SOS

This was another project by Bernie, under the name Bernie Marsden´s SOS:

BERNIE MARSDEN BAND #?
?
Rob Hawthorn
vocals
Bernie Marsden
guitar, vocals
Steve Cherry
Richard Bailey
keyboards

I can't find accurate info about this band, so any help would be very welcomed! They played at Reading Festival in August 1982. One live track appears in the collective album Reading Rock. And seven live songs from this lineup also appeared in Bernie's own The Friday Rock Show Sessions.

GRAND PRIX

Sorry, I don´t have info about Clive´s stay in Grand Prix.

ZAINE GRIFF BAND

In July 1983, singer Zaine Griff gave a one-off gig at The Venue in London, with this backing band:

ZAINE GRIFF BAND #
Zaine Griff
vocals, guitar
Alan Murphy
guitar
Simon Skinner
bass
Hans Zimmer
keyboards
Brian Gulland
sax, keyboards
Dorretta Carter
backing vocals
Pamela White
backing vocals
Ray Shell
backing vocals

BRONZ (aka BLUEPRINT)

This band evolved from Bronz, but as Shaun Kirkpatrick was the only original member left, they changed the name to Blueprint to mark the start of a completely new band.

BLUEPRINT #1
?
Ian Baker
vocals
Shaun Kirkpatrick
guitar
Mick O´Donoghue
guitar
Lea Readings
bass

They recorded an album at the Roundhouse in London and at Power Plant London with Max Norman producing. But the album was never released as the record company went into liquidation... until January 2010 when the album was finally released under the title Carried by the storm. Great news!

They also played some gigs after that but things finally fell apart after 2 years.

UFO

This mythical band had a new lineup in August 1990:

UFO #?
Aug 90-Dec 91
Phil Mogg
vocals
Laurence Archer
guitar
Pete Way
bass

They released the album High stakes & dangerous men. A live album was also released: Lights out in Tokyo: live.

In January 1992, they get a keyboardist for their European tour (by the way, the first concert of the tour was in Spain!):

UFO #?
Jan 92-Jun 93
Phil Mogg
vocals
Laurence Archer
guitar
Pete Way
bass
Jem Davis
keyboards

In June 1993, this lineup disappears when Mogg and Way start working to reunite their most classical lineup with Schenker, so everyone else in the band leaves.

MEDICINE HEAD

John Fiddler put the band to life again for a tour:

MEDICINE HEAD #
John Fiddler
vocals, guitar
Laurence Archer
guitar
James Fox
bass
+ others unknown to me. Help!

ROCOCO (again)

In the summer of 2003, an unexpected fact happens; Rococo comes to life again:

ROCOCO #?
?
Ian Raines
vocals, bass
Rod Halling
guitar
Roy Shipston
keyboards

Now a quartet, with lead singer Ian Raines also handling bass duties.

BLUE THUNDER

This is one of the lineups for Blue Thunder, Paul Williams´ own band, probably around 2007:

BLUE THUNDER #
Paul Williams
vocals
Steve Smith
guitar
Peter Stroud
bass
Roy Shipston
keyboards

WIREHEAD

WireHead is the new name for the reincarnation of Rococo:

WIREHEAD #?
?
Ian Raines
vocals
Tim Scopes
guitar
James Fox
bass
Roy Shipston
keyboards

They released an album, Losing ground in 2008.

AWE BAND

This is a new project by Laurence Archer, Paul Williams and Clive Edwards (hence the name AWE):

AWE BAND #1
?
Paul Williams
vocals, bass
Laurence Archer
guitar

For gigs, they get Clive´s friend James Fox on bass:

AWE BAND #?
?
Paul Williams
vocals
Laurence Archer
guitar
James Fox
bass

STAMPEDE

Around May 2009, Reuben and Laurence Archer reform Stampede after 26 years (!!), with their old mate Clive Edwards:

STAMPEDE #?
2009
Reuben Archer
vocals
Laurence Archer
guitar
Colin Bond
bass, keyboards

QUESTIONS:

01. I need more info on other Rococo lineups, as well as the complete name of their first singer Richard.

02. Who plays in Rococo´s 3rd single from 1981, ´Home town girls / Quicksilver mail´? Was it credited to the band Future?

03. I need to find info about his stays in the bands Berlin and Grand Prix.

04. Did he ever play with Thin Lizzy in some TV appearance (by the time Dave Flett was with them)?

05. Can someone help me with the list of musicians appearing in the live album Live: a week at the Bridge E16, please?

06. I need to find info about Clive´s work with Scott Gorham and Cathy September.

07. Does Clive appear in any recording by Lord Sutch and Zaine Griff (maybe the ´Passionate reply´ single?)?

    2. Clive appears with Thin Lizzy on Top of the Pops with Dave Flett to mime 'Sarah' in 1979. It's on YouTube. Clive plays on the Zaine Griff single 'Tonight' as does Brian Robertson. Some of the musicians on Live: a week at the Bridge E16 - Huey Lewis, Stevie Lange and Chris Thompson.

    3. Forgot to mention - Clive was also in a band with Charlie Huhn and John Sykes shortly before Sykes joined Whitesnake. I don't know if they got to the naming of the band stage though they did record demos.
