BIOGRAPHY:
Great guitarist, Dave Tedstone has played with many great bands and players. His lengthy career is very difficult to trace, so I try to place here all the details I know. Proof of Dave Tedstone´s great versatility on guitar can be shown if we realize that he was called to perform live the work that great guitarists had played on record (such as Jimmy Page on the Cartoone album, Gary Moore on the Granny´s Intentions album or Ronnie Wood on the Nicky Hopkins album).
I haven´t biographical info about Dave, but I think he was born in Hereford, as some of his first bands were based there. His first band was The Cruisers (from 1959 to 1961), an amateur band that went pro for a short period, but then, Dave and Lee Starr (real name, Jon Best) moved to Lee Starr And The Astrals in 1962.
LEE STARR AND THE ASTRALS
Lee Starr And The Astrals was formed in 1962, after a change of name from The Cruisers. This was a different lineup for the band, probably one of the earliest ones:
One more thing. Lee Starr And The Astrals backed singer Kenny Hollywood (who released his famous single ´Magic star´ in 1962), for live gigs. Which lineup of the band was then?
There are some compilations of Joe Meek productions, where some tracks by Lee Starr And The Astrals appear (they weren´t released as a singles on their own; they only appear in these later compilations). Some of the tracks are: ´Come back to me´ and ´Walkin´ with my angel´, both featured in the 4CD boxset by Joe Meek: Portrait of a genius - the RGM legacy (2005). Again the question is, does Tedstone appear in these tracks?

This was one of the lineups for Doc Thomas Group, a band from Herefordshire, formed from another local band The Buddies:
They recorded a self-titled album, Doc Thomas Group, in October 1966 and released only in Italy in January 1967. It was later reissued on CD under the new title The Italian job, with lots of bonus tracks (also from the band The Silence).
By the way, it seems that the band recorded 6-8 additional tracks located in the missing master tapes and thus remain unreleased. If anyone would know something about it, please let me know!

SALT & PEPPER
This was a band led by Junior Marvin (still known as Junior Kerr, and playing organ at that time). Dave Tedstone joined the band and stayed for 6 months in the latter part of 1970. They rehearsed and recorded several demos for DJM. Earlier demos had Micky Keene on guitar. The demos with Tedstone also included Bobby Tench on rhythm guitar as well as backing vocals, and Clive Chaman (Ed Spevock wasn´t the drummer at the demos, and I don´t know who else was at those sessions).
For some gigs over Christmas, they expanded into a bigger band, with Murray Head and Bobby Tench on vocals.
But this project was short-lived, and Junior changed his name to Junior Hanson, for starting a brand new project, Hanson.

Kenny was a one-man project by singer Tony Kenny, who released the single ´Heart of stone´ in February 1973. The single was a success, but Tony Kenny soon abandoned the project after one more single. In order to enjoy this success, producer Mickie Most hired real musicians for TV appearances as Kenny. Dave Tedstone was part of the band:

When Dave Tedstone auditioned for Nicky Hopkins, these were the musicians:
They auditioned on numbers on which Nicky had played, such as Jackie Lomax´ ´Sour Milk Sea´. But the band gigs never arrived, and soon, Thompson and Wallace joined Alvin Lee in September 1974.
After the demise of his first attempt of a live band for touring, Nicky Hopkins and Dave Tedstone called some of Dave´s mates from Fat Mattress, and they were the musicians for the tour promoting No more changes:
But the tour soon collapsed when Hopkins claimed ill health.

During the eighties, Tony O´Malley played gigs in clubs in London and around the UK and Europe. Dave Tedstone was the guitarist for one of those lineups, credited as Tony O´Malley And Friends, in the late 80s (probably 1986 or 1987), replacing Neil Hubbard who had left to join Frankie Miller:
