Al Harewood (drums)

BRIEF BIOGRAPHY:

Fantastic jazz drummer, Al Harewood was born Alphonse Harewood on June 3rd, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York. His brother was a drummer too.

He played with J J Johnson (1954 to 1956), Gigi Gryce, Art Farmer, David Amram-George Barrow, Curtis Fuller, Benny Golson, Lou Donaldson, Play House Four, Stan Getz, Mary Lou Williams, Betty Carter, George Benson, among many others.

Al Harewood passed away on March 13th, 2014. He was 90. We can still hear him in many great albums, fortunately.
