BIOGRAPHY:

Tex Makins was part of the magnificent British scene of mid 60s, playing with many musicians that later gained big fame. He was born Anthony Paul Makins on July 3rd, 1940 in Wembley, Middlesex, England.

One of the most successful singers managed by Larry Parnes was Billy Fury, so a band was assembled in June 1961 to back him in a stable basis, The Blue Flames (they were backing Clay Nichols under the slightly different name The Blueflames):

For a while, Red Reece became ill, and he was replaced by Tommy Frost and Roy Mills. Another occasional band member was trumpet player Eddie Thornton.

On a side note, Jimmie Nicol was later famous for being the drummer who played with The Beatles in an Australian tour when Ringo couldn't make it (although he had a long career before and after that).

A great loss for the band was Mick Eve who left them in July 1964. During the period he was in the band, some singers had made the odd gig with the band, although they weren't official members: John Hodgkinson (later to reappear as J.W. Hodgkinson in the superb band If), Ronnie Jones, Paul Williams or Geno Washington were some that would come down and do a number or two with the band.

This was the first lineup of Georgie Fame & The Blue Flames without Mick Eve:

In February 1968, Lord was replaced for a short time by Johnny Carroll. I don't know if there were more lineups in the meantime, but this was another great one, with the fantastic Tex Makins:
