This is intended to be a homage to very many musicians I've loved since I started listening to music. My intention is to tell what I know about them, hoping that those people who like them too, will help me fill numerous gaps, which I may have in their careers and discographies. Sorry, but there are no MP3 audio files here at all, just info (and love for the musicians).

BIOGRAPHY:

Fantastic guitarist with a very interesting career, as we´re going to read. Although I must say that I still have many gaps to fill... He is also known as Taz Reynolds. I haven´t found biographical details, but I think he is from Kearsley, Manchester.

THE THREE JETS

The Three Jets was an early band formed by Brian Chatton and Barry Reynolds:

THE THREE JETS #?
1961-1965
Brian Chatton
keyboards
+ another one unknown to me. Help!

But I haven´t any other info about them. If someone could help with the other members, period, etc., it would be very appreciated.

IVAN´S MEADS / MEAD

Barry Reynolds was in a late lineup of the band Ivan´s Meads from Manchester:

IVAN´S MEADS #
Ivan Robinson
vocals
+ others unknown to me. Help!

The band finally shortened their name to Mead, also with Barry, but can´t find any related info. Can someone help, please?

THE MEASLES

In the beginning of 1968, Barry Reynolds replaces founder member Wyn Davis in The Measles:

THE MEASLES #4
1968
Paul Young
vocals
Jomo Smith
guitar
Dave Earl
bass
Leo Laherty
drums

But after a few months, the band dissolved.

SPONGE

This was Sponge in the summer of 1968:

SPONGE #?
1968
Barry Reynolds
guitar, vocals
Graham Harrop
guitar
Pete Gray
bass
Brian Chapman
keyboards
Jack Lancaster
sax, flute
Lawrence Arends
drums
Blodwyn Pigê

But Jack Lancaster and Pete Gray leave the band at the end of that same year.
Sponge thus became a quartet at the end of 1968, with Graham Harrop switching to bass:

SPONGE #?
1968-May 69
Barry Reynolds
guitar, vocals
Graham Harrop
bass
Brian Chapman
keyboards
Lawrence Arends
drums

They backed Dave Berry live and on record (the single ´Huma luma´ was credited to Dave Berry & The Sponge).

In May 1969, Dave Bowker is recruited on bass and sax:

SPONGE #?
May 69-Jul 69
David Bowker
bass, sax
Graham Harrop
bass
Brian Chapman
keyboards
Lawrence Arends
drums

But in July 1969, Bowker leaves the band.

Sponge became a quartet again in July 1969:

SPONGE #?
Jul 69-1969
Barry Reynolds
guitar, vocals
Graham Harrop
bass
Brian Chapman
keyboards
Lawrence Arends
drums
Pacific Driftê

When the band folded, most of the members remained together as Pacific Drift.

PACIFIC DRIFT

This was the lineup for Pacific Drift around 1970, when the band Sponge changed their name to this one in the middle of the recording sessions:

PACIFIC DRIFT #?
1970-Sep 70
êSponge
êSponge
êSponge
êSponge
Graham Harrop
bass
Brian Chapman
keyboards
Lawrence Arends
drums
Blodwyn Pigê

They released one album, Feelin´ free, with the contribution of their mate Jack Lancaster (Jack also wrote some of the material for the album), Dave Davani on horns, and wonderful backing vocalists Sue Glover and Sunny Leslie.

They also released a new single, ´Water woman / Yes you do maybe as a forerunner of a second album that was never completed.

In September 1970, Barry Reynolds left to rejoin Jack Lancaster and the band folded.

BLODWYN PIG

Blodwyn Pig - rare, valuable image. From left to right: (behind) Andy Pyle, Barry Reynolds. (sitting) Peter Banks, Ron Berg, Alan Lancaster

In September 1970, Jack Lancaster calls Barry Reynolds to join him in Blodwyn Pig after Mick Abrahams leaves:

BLODWYN PIG #2
Sep 70-?
êPacific Drift
Peter Banks
guitar
Andy Pyle
bass
Jack Lancaster
wind
Ron Berg
drums

But, very soon, Banks leave them to form Flash, and Reynolds also leaves (being replaced by Larry Wallis).

AND THEN...

And then, I start having gaps in Barry´s career, so any additional info would be very welcomed.

In 1972, Barry moved to California, playing one-man acoustic shows, but returned to England one year later.

BILLIE DAVIS BAND

In 1973, Billie Davis toured Switzerland with Barry Reynolds and Brian Chapman:

BILLIE DAVIS BAND #?
1973
Billie Davis
vocals
Brian Chapman
keyboards
+ others unknown to me. Help!

And I haven´t more info about other players. Does anybody know?

TONY SHERIDAN BAND

He was the veteran singer who got fame as being the singer who had The Beatles as his backing band. In 1975, this was his live band for a tour:

TONY SHERIDAN BAND #?
1975
Tony Sheridan
vocals, guitar
Dave Wilkinson
keyboards
Roy Dyke
drums

MARIANNE FAITHFULL BAND

A great lady, with a broken voice, very personal. Marianne Faithfull formed a new backing band in 1977 to tour Ireland promoting her country album:

MARIANNE FAITHFULL BAND #?
1977
Marianne Faithfull
vocals
Joe Mavety
guitar
Terry Stannard
drums

They started writing together and recorded ´Why d´ya do it´ as a demo. Then got a deal with Island, and worked on her new album, the famous Broken English. The album was recorded with help from Steve Winwood on keyboards, as well as Darryl Way (violin, formerly of Curved Air), Guy Humphries (guitar), old mate Jim Cuomo (sax), the late Morris Pert (percussion), Pete York (drums), and the Kokomo vocal section: Dyan Birch and Frankie Collins.

Steve also toured with her in London & Birmingham in 1978-1979.

COMPASS POINT ALL STARS (studio band)

In 1977, producer Chris Blackwell set up Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas. A core band of musicians was formed, usually names as Compass Point All Stars, comprising:

Barry Reynolds (guitar)
Mikey Chung (guitar)
Robbie Shakespeare (bass)
Wally Badarou (keyboards)
Uzziah Sticky Thompson (percussion)
Sly Dunbar (drums)

They played together in dozens of albums (you can see a partial list below).

After that, Wally Badarou was replaced by Tyrone Downie.

MARIANNE FAITHFULL BAND (again)

The same tight unit, reunited for a new album:

MARIANNE FAITHFULL BAND #?
1980
Marianne Faithfull
vocals
Joe Mavety
guitar
Terry Stannard
drums

Her new album, recorded in 1980, was Dangerous acquaintances (Sep 81, Island), not so successful. The band was the same, with these guests: Steve Winwood (keyboards), Calvin 'Fuzzy' Samuels (bass), Jim Leverton (bass), Chris Stainton (keyboards), Dennis Haines (keyboards), Mel Collins (sax), Martin Drover (trumpet), Julian Diggle (percussion), and from Kokomo: Neil Hubbard (guitar), and vocalists Dyan Birch (here, appearing as Dyan Spenner) and Frankie Collins.

GRACE JONES BAND

Steve York did a session for Grace Jones for a TV show with these musicians:

GRACE JONES BAND #?
?
Grace Jones
vocals
Godfrey Wang
keyboards
Dino Coccia
drums

The track was ´Pull Up to the Bumper´, from Grace album Nightclubbing.

And I don´t know if Barry has backed Grace Jones more times. Does anybody know?

GREETINGS FROM TIM BUCKLEY BAND

In April 1991, famed producer Hal Willner prepares a tribute concert to the great Tim Buckley. The show was called Greetings From Tim Buckley. This was the superb core band:

AND NOW...

As far as I know, Barry must be living in New York, where he played in The pirate project, along with Lou Reed, Beth Orton and Johnny Depp.

In 2007, in an interview in Spain, lovely singer (and actress) Sophie Auster said she was working in a new album, to be produced by Barry Reynolds.

    2. I remember Barry Reynolds playing in a group called The Babes about 1965. They used to play at The Boneyard in Bolton and did alot of Spencer Davis numbers.
