Joel DiBartolo (bass)

BRIEF BIOGRAPHY:

Great bassist, Joel DiBartolo was born in 1946. He had an extensive performing career which included 18 years with Doc Severinsen and The Tonight Show Band. DiBartolo, as did the whole band, left the show in 1992 when Carson retired.

Before moving to Arizona in 1994, Mr. DiBartolo was a mainstay in the Los Angeles studio scene and participated in the recording of the soundtracks for hundreds of television shows (such as M*A*S*H, Dallas or Star Trek - The New Generation), movies (Star Wars, Saturday Night Fever, Jaws for example), commercials, and CDs.

Joel was also director of Jazz Studies and Associate Professor of String Bass, joining the Northern Arizona University faculty in 1995. At NAU, DiBartolo also headed the annual Jazz Festival.

In addition to his work in the jazz world, Joel DiBartolo was a member of the Buffalo Philharmonic, conducted by both Josef Krips and Lucas Foss, and was also a member of the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra.

Joel DiBartolo passed away on September 27th, 2011, after two years with health problems. He was 65. Thanks for all your music... His wife was Mary Frances Beadell-DiBartolo, cellist also from the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra.
