This is intended to be a homage to very many musicians I've loved since I started listening to music. My intention is to tell what I know about them, hoping that those people who like them too, will help me fill numerous gaps, which I may have in their careers and discographies. Sorry, but there are no MP3 audio files here at all, just info (and love for the musicians).

BATTERED ORNAMENTS

In 1969, Rob Tait is part of Pete Brown´s Battered Ornaments, the band assembled by Pete Brown:

BATTERED ORNAMENTS #?
1969
Pete Brown
vocals, percussion
Chris Spedding
guitar
Roger ´Butch´ Potter
bass
Charlie Hart
keyboards
George Khan
flute
Pete Bailey
percussion

They released an album with a funny title, A meal you can shake hands with in the dark in 1969, produced by Dick Heckstall-Smith, who also plays sax here.

The Battered Ornaments went onstage at the Rolling Stones famous Hyde Park Concert immediately before the Stones headlined. They played a Free Jazz set to a rather frosty reception!!

But soon that year, Pete Brown is fired, and Charlie Hart also leaves.

The rest of the band carries on as Battered Ornaments:

George Khan

They released Mantle piece in 1969.

PIBLOKTO!

In 1970, Rob rejoins old boss Pete Brown in a new project, Pete Brown And Piblokto!:

PIBLOKTO! #?
1970
êBattered Ornaments
Pete Brown
vocals, percussion
Jim Mullen
guitar
Roger Bunn

After a single, they released an album with an endless title: Things may come and things may go but the art school dance on, with some guests. After the album was released, Roger Bunn left.

Steve Glover is the new bassist in Piblokto!, replacing Roger Bunn:

PIBLOKTO! #?
1970
Pete Brown
vocals, percussion
Jim Mullen
guitar
Steve Glover
bass
Dave Thompson
keyboards

After a second album, Thousands on a raft, all the musicians sadly leave the band.

ARTHUR BROWN´S KINGDOM COME

In September 1970, Arthur Brown forms a new band, called Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come. This was the original lineup:

ARTHUR BROWN BAND #1
Sep 70-?
êCrazy World Of Arthur Brown
Arthur Brown
vocals
Bob Ellwood
guitar
Dave Ambrose
bass
Goodge Harris
keyboards
Pete Bailey
percussion

The lineup changed very soon, before they released any material. But ... many years later, an album has been released comprising loose sessions from the past. The album is adequately titled as Jam.

ARC

New drummer for Arc (still in 1970), is Rob Tait:

ARC #2
1970
John Turnbull
guitar, vocals
Tom Duffy
bass, vocals
Mickey Gallagher
keyboards

They released Arc at this. But in 1971, they went on to act as backing band for old mate Graham Bell.

BELL & ARC

Graham Bell started thinking about a solo career. He wrote some demos, and called his old mates (now in Arc) to back him. All went so well, that they decided forming a stable lineup, under the name Bell & Arc:

BELL & ARC #1
1971
êEvery Which Way
êArc
êArc
êArc
êArc
Graham Bell
vocals
John Turnbull
guitar, vocals
Tom Duffy

Mickey Gallagher

They released Bell & Arc, with lots of great guests: Kenny Craddock (keyboards, guitar), Bud Beadle (sax), Steve Gregory (sax), Jeff Condon (trumpet), John Woods (percussion), Alan White (drums, percussion). Some of them also joined the band later.

But after the album, Rob Tait left.

VINEGAR JOE

This was the initial lineup for the band Vinegar Joe, around 1971:

VINEGAR JOE #1
1971
Elkie Brooks
vocals
Robert Palmer
vocals
Pete Gage
guitar, keyboards, vocals
Steve York
bass, harmonica
Tim Hinkley
keyboards
John Hawken
keyboards

Rob Tait joined the band during the recording of their first album, Vinegar Joe. Keef Hartley had done all the sessions until they found a permanent drummer, except one track, ´Live A Little Get Somewhere´. Rob then did this track in Island Studios and went on the road with the band.

Other musicians appearing in the album: Dave Thompson (keyboards), Dave Brooks (sax), Conrad Isadore (drums), Gaspar Lawal (percussion), and from Average White Band: Malcolm ´Molly´ Duncan and Roger Ball.

GONG

In October 1972, Rob joins Gong:

GONG #?
Oct 72
David Allen

Gilli Smyth

Francis Moze

Tim Blake

Didier Malherbe

But his stay was very brief, just that same month.

GRAHAM BOND BAND

In 1973, Steve York joins his mate Graham Bond, for some gigs in France:

GONG (again)

Oct 73-Mar 74
David Allen

Steve Hillage
guitar
Mike Howlett
bass
Tim Blake

Didier Malherbe

After a long tour, Rob Tait and Diane Stewart leave again in March 1974.

Some years later, a live album was released, Gong Live etc. Featuring different Gong lineups, Rob Tait is featured in some tracks. Originally a 2LP, it has been reissued in abridged version as 1CD, lacking 1 track, so beware...

A 2nd live album has resurfaced along the years. It's The Peel Sessions (1971-74 pre-modernist wireless on radio). Also featuring different lineups, but Rob is featured in one track from 1974.

RUFUS THOMAS BAND

These great musicians backed veteran soul singer Rufus Thomas for his UK tour in 1974:

AND THEN...

In 1974, he started working in Night Clubs in the West End of London.

Around 2005, Rob formed a Jazz Quartet to play in a local Pub :- Hammond Organ, Piano, Bass Pedals / Tenor Sax,Flute / Guitar / Drums. Don´t know the other members, but some of them might be Alan Glen and Nick Newell.

The album, Manor live was one of the first releases by (then) brand new label Virgin. Exactly, it was the 3rd album released by the label, after Mike Oldfield's Tubular bells and Gong's Radio gnome invisible: part one - the flying teapot.
No live gigs were ever made to promote the album. Way too many people!

    BRIAN CONNELL AND THE ROUNDSOUND

In 1966, Brian Connell And The Roundsound is formed by merging musicians from two different bands, State Quintin Five and The Index:

After 3 singles, they split in 1968, with Brian Connell starting his solo career.

Many years later, a CD from their recordings has been released, but don´t know the title, as I haven´t it.

    AMBOY DUKES

The Amboy Dukes was an English soul band in the sixties, with some young musicians that later became famous as great session men:

    ?
    Junior Marvin

    Clive Chaman

+ others unknown to me. Help, please!

But this project was short-lived, and Junior changed his name to Junior Hanson, for starting a brand new project, Hanson.

    PIBLOKTO!

Ed Spevock joined Pete Brown and Piblokto! around 1970:

But the band was disbanded very soon. Pete Brown joined Graham Bond for a while, and Spevock went with them.

    BOND + BROWN

Graham Bond and Pete Brown join forces under the name Bond + Brown:

They released an album, with the title of Two heads are better than one. The album also contained guest appearances by great guitarist Mick Hutchinson, plus backing vocals by Mick Walker, Sue Woolley and Erica Bond.

Around Autumn 1972, Steve York joined this band assembled by mates Graham Bond and Pete Brown, replacing DeLisle Harper:

    BABE RUTH

    Babe Ruth

Ed Spevock joined fantastic band Babe Ruth around 1973:

    Jenny Haan
    vocals
    Alan Shacklock
    guitar
    Dave Hewitt
    bass
    Chris Holmes

They released their 2nd album, Amar caballero. With lots of guest players: Bud Beadle and Steve Gregory were both old mates of Spevock (in Amboy Dukes), plus Ron Carthy (trumpet), Keith Christie (trombone), Jack Ellory (flute), Duncan Lamont (flute), Gaspar Lawal (percussion), Nick Mobbs (percussion), Brian Warren (flute), Dave White (flute).

    Babe Ruth live in 1974

Soon later, they change their keyboardist, arriving Steve Gurl:

    BABE RUTH #?
    1975
    Jenny Haan
    vocals
    Alan Shacklock
    guitar
    Dave Hewitt
    bass
    Steve Gurl
    keyboards

Their 3rd album was a self-titled one, Babe Ruth, featuring one song written by Ed, ´Sad but rich´.

After several lineup changes, Alan Shacklock leaves the band in 1975, and the great Bernie Marsden joins them:

    BABE RUTH #?
    1975-1976
    Jenny Haan
    vocals
    Bernie Marsden
    guitar
    Dave Hewitt
    bass
    Steve Gurl
    keyboards

They release a new album, Stealin´ home. Again, including a fantastic song written by Ed, ´Fascination´.

But soon later, Haan leaves the band, and Bernie Marsden assumes the leading role.

The new singer is Ellie Hope:

    BABE RUTH #?
    1976
    Ellie Hope
    vocals
    Bernie Marsden
    guitar
    Dave Hewitt
    bass
    Steve Gurl
    keyboards

Next change in the band was the bassist role, as Hewitt leaves the band.

The new bassist is Ray Knott:

    BABE RUTH #?
    1976
    Ellie Hope
    vocals
    Bernie Marsden
    guitar
    Ray Knott
    bass
    Steve Gurl

A new album is released, Kid´s stuff. Bernie Marsden called some of his former friends in Cozy Powell´s Hammer to play here: Neil Murray (bass) and Don Airey (keyboards), plus percussionists Frank Ricotti, Chris Karan and Tony Carr.

The new bassist is Ray Knott:

A new album is released, Kid´s stuff. Bernie Marsden called some of his former friends in Cozy Powell´s Hammer to play here: Neil Murray (bass) and Don Airey (keyboards), plus percussionists Frank Ricotti, Chris Karan and Tony Carr.

In an attempt at reviving their powerful sound, the band recruits a 2nd guitarist for what was to be their last tour:

    BABE RUTH #?

    vocals
    Bernie Marsden

    Simon Lambeth
    guitar
    Ray Knott

    Steve Gurl

    But the band finally splits.

    AND THEN...

Then, he gets a call from old schoolmate Peter Green, who asked him to form a band, but after some rehearsals, the idea was dropped.

    CHICKEN SHACK

In 1977, Stan Webb resurrects mythical band Chicken Shack, keeping Robbie Blunt with him:

    CHICKEN SHACK #?
    1977
    êBroken Glass
    êBroken Glass
    Stan Webb
    vocals, guitar
    Robbie Blunt
    guitar, vocals
    Paul Martinez
    bass

They recorded an album, The creeper, with help from Tony Ashton.

After a while, Martinez left, and his replacement is Ray Knott, Spevock´s old mate in Babe Ruth:

    CHICKEN SHACK #?
    1977-1978
    Stan Webb
    vocals, guitar
    Robbie Blunt
    guitar, vocals
    Ray Knott
    bass

but Knott left the band very soon.

Steve York joined Chicken Shack around 1978, replacing Ray Knott:

    CHICKEN SHACK #?
    1978-1979
    Stan Webb
    vocals, guitar
    Robbie Blunt
    guitar, vocals
    Steve York
    bass

This lineup released a very good album in 1978, That's the way we are, before Spevock left them in 1979.

    AND THEN...

He was also a member of The Peddlers.

Another band was Lion, a project with old mate Jenny Haan. But I don't have info about the musicians, so any help will be very appreciated.

He has also played along the years in several musical works, such as 'Are you lonesome tonight?', ´Disgracefully yours´, ´Snoopy´, ´Great Balls Of Fire´ (in 1999), and others.

    ENIGMA

Ed was a member of Enigma, a British band whose life spawns over two decades, with many different musicians. Ed was a member of the band, with this lineup:

    ENIGMA #?
    ?
    Marie Grimshaw
    vocals
    Terri Harwood

    Martin Jay
    guitar, vocals
    Brad Lang
    bass
    Neil Drinkwater
    keyboards
    Stewart Curtis
    sax, flute
    Roger Odell
    drums

I don't know how much time (and when) Ed spent with the band. Help, please!

RICHARD O´BRIEN BAND (THE BLACK ANGELS)

The musical ´Disgracefully yours´ was performed by Richard O'Brien (from The Rocky Horror Show fame) in 1996. This was the cast of musicians (the band was named The Black Angels):

    1996

Some of the songs from the show were later played in Richard O'Brien´s album from 1999, Absolute O'Brien, where Spevock plays in two songs. STEALING DAN (AND DON)

Ed Spevock currently plays with a Steely Dan tribute band funnily named Stealing Dan (and Don). The lineup is:
