Legendary producer, he was born on December 27th, 1948 in Woking, Surrey, England.
He passed away on August 9th, 2020, he was 71. Thanks for all the great albums produced or engineered by him! This is just a very small list of albums I have featuring him, and I´ll be expanding it sometime in the future.
BAND / ARTIST | . | RECORDINGS | Black Sabbath |   | 2 RECORDINGS: Heaven and hell - Black Sabbath (April 1980)
- Members: Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi, Bill Ward (RIP: Ronnie James Dio, Geoff Nicholls)
- Producer: (RIP: Martin Birch)
- Technical: Dan Hersch
- My opinion: A magnificent album. Many people thought that Black Sabbath wouldn´t be the same without Ozzy, but Dio stands here to prove them wrong.
Mob rules - Black Sabbath (November 1981)
- Members: Vinny Appice, Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi (RIP: Ronnie James Dio, Geoff Nicholls)
- Producer: (RIP: Martin Birch)
- Technical: Dan Hersch
- My opinion: Another fantastic album. My favourite track is the title track ´The Mob Rules´ that opened the B-side (yes, I still miss vinyl) as a thunder.

Ritchie Blackmore Band |   | 1 RECORDINGS: Green Bullfrog - Green Bullfrog (1972)
- Members: Ritchie Blackmore
- Guests: Matthew Fisher, Albert Lee, Ian Paice (RIP: Tony Ashton, Chas Hodges, Big Jim Sullivan)
- Producer: (RIP: Martin Birch, Derek Lawrence)
- Comments: This was a project made by Ritchie Blackmore. He recorded it with some friend and old bandmates just for fun. This is the (amazing) lineup:
Earl Jordan (vocals) (aka Jordan), Ritchie Blackmore (guitar) (aka Boots), Albert Lee (guitar) (aka Pinta), Big Jim Sullivan (guitar) (aka Boss), Rod Alexander (guitar) (aka Vicar), Chas Hodges (bass) (aka Sleepy), Tony Ashton (keyboards) (aka Bevy), Matthew Fisher (keyboards) (aka Sorry), Ian Paice (drums) (aka Speedy). A guitar feast! Originally, the album included 8 tracks. Produced by Derek Lawrence, due to contractual problems, the musicians credits were written with nicknames (as you can read above). But it was later remastered and reissued on CD in 1991 under the name The green bullfrog sessions, now with 3 unreleased tracks.

Cozy Powell Band |   | 1 RECORDINGS: Over the top - Cozy Powell (1979)
- Members: Don Airey, Clem Clempson, Bernie Marsden, Max Middleton (RIP: Cozy Powell + Jack Bruce, Gary Moore)
- Producer: (RIP: Martin Birch)
- Technical: Ian Cooper (RIP: Alan Douglas)
- Comments: Over the top is a killer album. The thanks section mentions Roger Glover and Neil Murray. All the songs are instrumentals, but they funnily write: 'lyrics enclosed'.
- My opinion: All the tracks are fantastic, as well as musicianship. You can hear Jack Bruce at his best, Clem Clempson is making his guitar howl, and Gary Moore´s speed is incredible. Don Airey arranges all the songs, as well as writing the great 'Killer', and co-writing 'Heidi goes to town' and 'Over the top'. I love when he plays the 'White room' riff inside 'Theme One'. Jack Bruce sure was smiling...
Clem plays fantastically in two tracks, 'Sweet poison' and 'The loner'. 1 COMPILATIONS: The Best of Cozy Powell - Cozy Powell (July 1997)
- Members: Don Airey, Clem Clempson, Bernie Marsden, Max Middleton (RIP: Cozy Powell + Jack Bruce)

The European one (released on EMI) was recorded with this lineup, but the American edition (released on Geffen) contains all the guitar parts re-released by new guitar axe John Sykes, and it seems that Colin Hodgkinson parts were re-recorded by his replacement, Neil Murray, who came back into the band.

Seems odd to leave out one of the greatest albums of ALL TIME: Beck-Ola -- surely you must own that one!
ReplyDeleteYes, of course! I have it on vinyl, and then also bought the CD reissue from 2004 with the 4 bonus tracks. Love the album, as I love everything Jeff Beck has ever made (he is in my top three for guitarists, along with my love and missed Peter Green). It's only that this page is very incomplete, I'm trying to include more albums, but I need to find free time. I've already included this one, plus other by Whitesnake, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden or lesser known acts such as Nina (from Nina & Frederik fame), Richard Kerr, The Cortinas... and I have to include many more. Thanks again, it's great to know that someone reads what I'm writing (not so sure until now!)
