BIOGRAPHY:

Jimmy Horowitz is probably best known as producer and a magnificent arranger, but he´s also a very good keyboardist. He was born in 1945, in Liverpool, England. He married to beautiful singer Lesley Duncan, to whom he produced all her early albums.

Jimmy was credited as Jimi Horowitz in many of his earlier works.

Jimmy Horowitz as shown on Long John Baldry´s album Baldry´s out

BLUESOLOGY

Bluesology was formed in 1966 by Long John Baldry as his backing band. They went through several lineup changes, but I can´t find the lineup(s) with Jimmy Horowitz:

BLUESOLOGY #?
?
Long John Baldry
vocals
+ others unknown to me. Help!

They released 3 singles from 1965 to 1967, but I don't know if this was the lineup in all those singles.

There's an album called Rare tracks, where we can find Jimmy Horowitz and Caleb Quaye playing in some songs.

The band dissolved in 1968, but Jimmy played with Baldry many years later, as we're going to read.

QUIET MELON

This was a project initially led by veteran Art Wood (from The Artwoods, and brother of Ron Wood). Through a few spare gigs with changing lineups, this served as the seed for Faces (all the members played here: Rod Stewart, Ron Wood, Ronnie Lane, Ian McLagan, Kenny Jones), plus others such as the late Kim Gardner (bass) or Long John Baldry. The lineup for a one-off gig in May 1969 included Jimmy Horowitz too:

QUIET MELON #?

LESLEY DUNCAN BAND

Jimmy Horowitz´s relationship with Lesley Duncan was very close, as they were married at that time. Jimmy produced most of her albums, and he also assembled and played live bands to back her. This was the Lesley Duncan Band just for 1 gig in September 1972 at the Queen Elizabeth Hall:

FACES

Jimmy Horowitz conducting the orchestra with The Faces in October 1975

Faces was a magnificent, powerful band. Although they always were a quintet, their last tour (August to November 1975) saw them reinforced with a 6th musician, the late Jesse Ed Davis on guitar. Jimmy Horowitz also toured with the band, as conductor for the string section that was used every night in a couple of songs:

When Papa John King was not available due to other tours, he was replaced by Pete Shannon.

    QUESTIONS:

    01. I need to check more album credits, as I guess Jimmy can be involved in more albums and artists that recorded for GM label. Names to check, for example: Chris Jagger, Bill Barclay, Rugenstein, Red Herring, Tony Kaye, Chas Jankel, Kenny Jones, Philadelphia Flyers, Bright Red Tandem, Spiteri, Julie Rogers, Billy Nicholls, Mike Starrs, and others.

    02. In the poster of Reading Festival 1973, there's also a reference as "Jimmy Horowitz Orchestra" as performer. Can someone give me info abou it, please? They supposedly backed Tim Hardin in the festival too.

    03. Jimmy played with his Orchestra in a recording by Helena Vonderackova, but I can´t find details.

    04. Has Jimmy played with Don McLean?
