Fantastic player and songwriter, J J Cale has been a legend on his own. He has influenced many artists along his lengthy career.

J J Cale was born John Weldon Cale (although sometimes he's wrongly credited as Jean Jacques Cale) on December 5th, 1938 in Oklahoma City, but soon moved to Tulsa. He soon started playing in local bands (one of them included his friend Leon Russell), before forming his own Johnnie Cale & The Valentines.

AND THEN...
In 1959, J J Cale moved to Nashville to play as professional musician for the Grand Ole Opry´s touring company.
After some years, he came back to Tulsa, started playing with Leon Russell again, and then, in 1964, Russell, Cale and bassist Carl Radle moved together to Los Angeles. There, Cale not only played but also worked as sound engineer.

Cale´s next album was the wonderful Shades, released in 1981, followed by Grasshopper in 1982.
1983 saw the release of #8. Then, he stopped recording, having to wait until 1989 to see the edition of Travelog, when he started touring again for the album promotion.

J J Cale sadly passed away on July 26th, 2013 in La Jolla, California, after suffering a heart attack.

JJ played with D&B around 1967 for half a year, based on an interview in the Troubadour fanzine. Whitlock, Keys, Karstein were in it among many others, and Leon after JJ left.

DeleteSpooner didn't play with us in 2004, but I was with the Band all year, including with Clapton in Dallas and on the DVD.
