BANDS:
- Delaney Bramlett Band
- Delaney & Bonnie Band
BIOGRAPHY:
Singer and guitarist, he was most famous for his duet band with his then-wife Bonnie, as Delaney & Bonnie.
He was born on July 1st, 1939 in Pontopoc, Mississippi, USA. He started as a session musician, playing with Leon Russell as the backing band for the TV series Shindig!. He met and married Bonnie in 1967.
Following George Harrison´s advice, Eric Clapton asked them to be the opening act in the infamous North American tour by Blind Faith in July and August 1969, and that´s when Clapton started friendship with them. When the tour finished and Blind Faith disbanded, Clapton asked Delaney to produce his first solo album, which he did. The recording sessions started in September 1969, and by November, Delaney & Bonnie started a German and British tour, now with Clapton on board.
This is the lineup of Delaney & Bonnie & Friends that recorded the live album On tour with Eric Clapton in November 1969:

This was the superb combination of musicians that backed Delaney & Bonnie for a short period from November 1969 to December 1969, and also probably during some gigs during February to March 1970:

It was followed by the release of a single, ´Comin´ home / Groupie (Superstar)´, released in December 1969, with Eric Clapton playing and co-writing the A-side.
More dates followed in February and March 1970, after the Eric Clapton album was finished.
Delaney & Bonnie followed their career, releasing several albums. In 1971, the couple also appear in the movie Vanishing point (starring Barry Newman) along with Rita Coolidge, Sam Clayton and David Gates, singing ´You got to believe´. They also appear in another movie, Catch my soul in 1974, with Richie Havens and Tony Joe White.
Delaney & Bonnie had a daughter, Bekka Bramlett, now a singer on her own, but divorced in 1973, and started separate careers.
Delaney has also produced albums for King Curtis, Etta James, John Hammond, Dorothy Morrison, Elvin Bishop, Bobby Whitlock or The Staples Singers.
