This is intended to be a homage to very many musicians I've loved since I started listening to music. My intention is to tell what I know about them, hoping that those people who like them too, will help me fill numerous gaps, which I may have in their careers and discographies. Sorry, but there are no MP3 audio files here at all, just info (and love for the musicians).

Davy Graham (guitar)

BANDS:

BANDPERIODDETAILS
  • John Mayall Band
  • Alexis Korner Band
  • Bert Jansch & Davy Graham
PERIODBANDDETAILS

BIOGRAPHY:

Magnificent acoustic guitarist, he was born David Michael Gordon Graham in November 22, 1940. During his youth, he lived in different countries (such as Turkey, Morocco and India), and that´s probably why he had an Arab and Eastern influence in his playing style.

CYRIL DAVIES & ALEXIS KORNER BAND

The first band I know with Davy was Alexis Korner and Cyril Davies band. Sometimes, when Alexis Korner was unable to attend some gigs, he was replaced by Davy Graham.

JOHN MAYALL & THE BLUESBREAKERS

Around January 1963, this was the original incarnation of John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers:

JOHN MAYALL BAND #

John Mayall
vocals, harmonica
Davy Graham
guitar
or
Sammy Proser
guitar
Rick Brown
bass
Sam Stone
drums

Sometimes the guitar slot was filled by Sammy Proser. This lineup lasted only for two months until March 1963 (for example, Rick Brown was still a member of Cyril Davies band at the same time).

SOLO CAREER

In 1962, he released a 3-song EP shared with Alexis Korner, 3/4 A D (A stands for Alexis and D for Davy).

In 1963, he releases another EP shared with The Thamesiders, called From London To Hootenanny.

Lots of albums followed, although some kind of illness kept him not very active during half of the seventies. He is the original composer of the beautiful tune, ´Anji´ (later covered by Bert Jansch or Simon & Garfunkel).

His albums are very beautiful, especially the ones from the sixties.

A not very known fact. Davy appears playing guitar uncredited in the movie The servant (1963, directed by Joseph Losey and starring Dick Bogarde and Sarah Miles - the movie also shows jazz leader Johnny Dankworth).

BERT JANSCH & DAVY GRAHAM

In August 2005, guitar legends Bert Jansch and Davy Graham team for a couple of gigs at the Edinburgh Festival:

They also played a joint gig in December 2005.

Other info on members of Bert Jansch Band (I know up to 9 members)
Already covered (1): Bert Jansch
To be covered (3): Albert Lee, Nigel Portman Smith, John Renbourn

He sadly died on December 15, 2008, after struggling with lung cancer. He was admired by many of his colleagues, such as John Renbourn, Jimmy Page or the late ones Bert Jansch, John Martyn and Rod Price.
