GALLIARD

Galliard

Fantastic band from Birmingham, powered by a horn section.

I´m not completely sure of the lineups, but I think this was the original one:

GALLIARD #?
1968-1969
Geoff Brown
vocals, guitar, keyboards
Richard Pannell
guitar
Andrew Abbott
bass
John Smith
sax
Leslie Podraza
drums
+ maybe others, unknown to me.

I don´t know if John Morton, Tommy Thomas, Harry Beckett, John Hughes and Tony Roberts were members of the band, or just played in a session basis.

They released their first album, Strange pleasure.

Around 1969, Lyle Jenkins replaced John Smith:

+ maybe others, unknown to me.

They released their second album, New dawn.

But Caswell and Jenkins left a bit later. The band carried on for a while, but it soon folded.

    1. Remember watching Ici La at the musician's workshop at Madison Joe's circa 84/85 on a Monday night. Great band. 'The Ghost walks in. She takes your breath away.......'

    2. Someone told me that the trumpet player had also done session work for Paul McCartney. True?

    3. You've forgotten Mark Wellbeloved who played trumpet for both The Agency and Max Temp. Some of the guys I remember from Max Temp are Ray Foster (vocals), Slowhand Martin (guitar), Geoff (sax), Patrick (drums), Art (keyboards), Chris Preston (guitar or bass - can't quite remember). They played at our wedding in 1988....hope this helps.

    4. What about that amazing guitarist Tris Stevens, how could anyone forget him !! He played with many bands in Bournemouth and Dorset in the 70`s and 80`s including The Slobs and was one of the founder members of The Outsiders ( later The Agency ) His last band was rock/ covers band `Lucky` which he left in 2000 and retired to Spain where he still gigs in the sunshine.

    5. Yes, you are right. The first band before `The Slobs` was `Frank Slob and the Slobettes` and Tris Stevens was the guitarist and also original guitarist for `The Slobs`. Pete Ballam was the original bass player. Martin Jenner played with the band when he wasn`t playing with Cliff Richard and also played bass with The Slobs in South Africa when Pete Ballam left !
