BIOGRAPHY:

Veteran drummer, he was born William James Eyden in Hounslow, Middlesex, England on May 4th, 1930. He started playing piano, before switching to drums. He has played in many bands, mostly in the jazz camp, becoming a professional musician in 1952.

Bill Eyden

IVOR KIRCHIN BAND

The Ivor Kirchin Band was obviously led by drummer Ivor Kirchin. But he suffered a car accident in the summer of 1952, so his son Basil left his own band to lead this one, and got Bill Eyden as drummer, until Ivor got recovered:

TUBBY HAYES GROUP

Bill Eyden started playing with Tubby Hayes in 1955, although I´m sure I'm missing many lineups, so any help would be very welcomed.

This was the third lineup for Tubby Hayes & His Orchestra, in July 1955:

LONG JOHN BALDRY BAND

For a while in 1964, Bill Eyden was also a member of Long John Baldry band, Hoochie Coochie Men, but I haven't been able to find proper info. Any ideas?

LONG JOHN BALDRY BAND #?
1964
Long John Baldry

My guess is: The Hoochie Coochie Men were formed in January 1964, and had 4 lineups (that I know). Bill Eyden joined Georgie Fame in October 1964, then Eyden should have played with one of the three first lineups by the Hoochie Coochie Men. This would lead to think that the band should also include Rod Stewart (vocals), Geoff Bradford (guitar), Cliff Barton (bass) or maybe Pete Blannin (I don´t think so). The rest of the members should change depending on when Eyden joined. Possible bandmembers: Ian Armit or Johnny Parker (piano), Al Gay and/or Art Themen (sax). Can someone help with this mess, please?

ALEXIS KORNER BAND

Bill Eyden was also part of Alexis Korner Band, probably before 1965:

Georgie Fame & The Blue Flames featuring Bill Eyden and Speedy (others are unknown to me)

Another different lineup for George Fame & The Blue Flames in October 1964, marking the reunion with an old friend, Colin Green, who was the original guitarist in the band. Bill Eyden is the new drummer, replacing mythical Phil Seamen:

GEORGIE FAME BAND #?

A new musician is added in November 1964, great sax player Glenn Hughes:

And another musician adds as a permanent member of Georgie Fame & The Blue Flames in March 1965, old mate Eddie Thornton:

They were the resident band at Ronnie Scott´s club, thus playing with many visiting stars.

AND THEN...

Strangely enough, Eyden´s most remembered work wasn't made in jazz music, but in rock. He was the drummer in the original recording of Procol Harum's ´A whiter shade of pale´, even though he wasn't a member of the band. He was just hired in a session basis.

And then, I haven't been able to find info about him for the next years... Any help with additional info would be welcomed.
