Bobby Keys (sax)

BRIEF BIOGRAPHY:

Fantastic sax player, he´s most known for having played with Rolling Stones for decades, but he can be found in many other albums, and he has toured with other great artists as well. I´m missing lots of info about live lineups, but this is my humble tribute to Bobby so I write it as complete as I can.

Bobby Keys was born Robert Henry Keys on December 18th, 1943 in Slaton, Texas.

DELANEY & BONNIE BAND

Bobby Keys was already a member of Delaney & Bonnie in 1968, along with Carle Radle and Jim Gordon, but can´t find info about proper lineups previous to their association with Eric Clapton, as it´s their most documented period.

J J Cale was the original guitarist of Delaney & Bonnie & Friends, but haven´t been able to find info about the period or the other players. Can someone help, please?:

JOE COCKER BAND

It's March 1970, and Leon Russell assembles a mega-band to back Joe Cocker in an American tour. Of course, Chris Stainton goes with Joe too. Be ready to read the whole lineup of Mad Dogs & Englishmen:

The tour finished in May 1970, but a couple of concerts were recorded and filmed in March. A double live album was released, the great Mad Dogs & Englishmen. I also have the movie from the same name, that I'd categorize as a superb musical chaos. Joe abandoned the idea after that, felt exhausted and retired for a while. On his side, Leon Russell used most of the musicians for his own band Leon Russell & The Shelter People.

Many years later, the double live album has been reissued several times, but there´s a deluxe edition as a 6CD. Absolutely stunning.

AND THEN...

At this point, Bobby Keys and Jim Price were living at George Harrison´s home, recording his All things must pass album. Both Bobby and Jim were convinced that Eric Clapton was to include them in his then-brand new band, Derek & The Dominos, but that never happened to their disappointment.

But, while with Harrison, Mick Jagger came to visit them at the studio and asked Bobby to play in some track of the album the Stones were recording, and that´s when his long
connection with the Stones started.

CHRIS STAINTON BAND

After his experience in The Grease Band, Chris Stainton thinks it´s time to have his own band as a leader, in January 1972. A bit in the style of Mad Dogs & Englishmen, Chris forms another mega-band. It´s not possible to trace the multiple lineup changes, so here's the complete list of musicians:
