This is intended to be a homage to very many musicians I've loved since I started listening to music. My intention is to tell what I know about them, hoping that those people who like them too, will help me fill numerous gaps, which I may have in their careers and discographies. Sorry, but there are no MP3 audio files here at all, just info (and love for the musicians).

    The Kinks  7 RECORDINGS:
  • Low budget - The Kinks (July 1979)

  • One for the road - The Kinks (June 1980) (LIVE)

    • Members: Mick Avory, Dave Davies, Ray Davies, Ian Gibbons, Nick Newell (RIP: Jim Rodford)
    • Technical: Bob Ludwig
    • Comments: Great double live album, some CD release missed some track. I've bought the new reissue as 2CD, being the 2nd CD an enhanced CD showing live video footage for the computer. The album also features Nick Newell as additional keyboardist, so I guess he also toured with the band in that tour.
  • Give the people what they want - The Kinks (October 1981)

    • Members: Mick Avory, Dave Davies, Ray Davies, Ian Gibbons (RIP: Jim Rodford)
    • Technical: Bob Ludwig
    • My opinion: With the hauntingly beautiful ´Better things´song.
  • State of confusion - The Kinks (May 1983)

    • Members: Mick Avory, Dave Davies, Ray Davies, Ian Gibbons (RIP: Jim Rodford)
    • Technical: Bob Ludwig (RIP: Damian Korner)
    • Comments: The album was recorded between October 1982 to March 1983, except one song that was recorded in May and June 1981. The album included two additional tracks in the cassette version (´Noise´ and ´Long distance´). The CD reissue on Konk label includes 4 bonus tracks (2 of them being those mentioned songs).
  • Word of Mouth - The Kinks (November 1984)

    • Members: Mick Avory, Dave Davies, Ray Davies, Ian Gibbons, Bob Henrit (RIP: Jim Rodford)
    • Technical: Bob Ludwig (RIP: David Baker)
    • Comments: Recorded in different periods: 3 tracks in June-July 1983 with Mick Avory on drums; fired sometime later and replaced by Bob Henrit who plays in the rest of the tracks, recorded in June, August and September 1984. CD remastered reissue on Konk label contains 2 bonus tracks.
    • My opinion: My favourite track is the fantastic ´Do it again´.
  • Think visual - The Kinks (December 1986)

    • Members: Mick Avory, Dave Davies, Ray Davies, Ian Gibbons, Bob Henrit (RIP: Jim Rodford)
    • Technical: Bob Ludwig (RIP: David Baker, Damian Korner)
    • Comments: Think visual also features Mick Avory in one track.
  • The Road - live - The Kinks (1987) (LIVE)

    • Members: Dave Davies, Ray Davies, Ian Gibbons, Bob Henrit (RIP: Jim Rodford)
    • Comments: The road - live is obviously a live album, recorded in the summer of 1987, and including a new studio track, ´The road´.
    3 COMPILATIONS:
  • Celluloid heroes - The Kinks (1976)

    • Members: Mick Avory, John Dalton, Dave Davies, Ray Davies (RIP: Jim Rodford)
  • Come dancing with the Kinks - the best of The Kinks 1977-1986 - The Kinks (July 1986)

    • Members: Mick Avory, John Beecham, John Dalton, Dave Davies, Ray Davies, Ian Gibbons, John Gosling, Bob Henrit, Alan Holmes, Nick Newell, Andy Pyle (RIP: Jim Rodford)
    • Guests: Clem Cattini, Ron Lawrence, Nick Trevisick
    • Technical: Bob Ludwig
    • Comments: This is a compilation originally released as a 2LP with 18 tracks. The CD reissue is missing 3 tracks, in order to fit into 1CD. It contains previously released material, but of important note is that there is a song only released as a single, ´Father Christmas´, and a rare track, ´Long distance´. As the period covered spawns through different Kinks lineups, I must say that other musicians appearing includes Ron Lawrence (bass), Alan Holmes (sax), John Beecham (trombone), Nick Newell (keyboards, sax), Nick Trevisik (drums), Clem Cattini (drums), plus future members Jim Rodford (bass), Ian Gibbons (keyboards), Bob Henrit (drums).

Great musicians included: John Knightsbridge (guitar), Garth Watt-Roy (guitar), Paul Keogh (guitar), Alan Spenner (bass), Ian Kewley (keyboards), Tommy Eyre (flute, keyboards), and the rhythm section from Argent: Jim Rodford (bass, a brief member, later to join The Kinks) and Bob Henrit (drums).

    • Comments: Return to Waterloo was a movie directed, produced and written by Ray Davies. The best thing is that it contains tracks by The Kinks, never available on record. In March 1999, it was reissued on DVD together with a video compilation by The Kinks, Come dancing with The Kinks. The album was credited to Ray Davies, but it's mostly a Kinks album (except that Dave Davies is not featured). It features both Bob Henrit and Mick Avory.

    QUESTIONS:

    01. I´ve read that Mike Cotton Sound were used as backing band for Mary Hopkin album Postcard, can someone confirm me the musicians involved (Rodford too)?

    02. Was Jim Rodford a member of The Swinging Blue Jeans in the early 60s (not only in the 90s)?
